Seen at the Fair this morning.
I'm an old guy, living near San Francisco. I was born in Austria and grew up in Shanghai. Long-distance running used to be my passion. Now it's digital photography and hiking. When people ask me what I like to take pictures of, my answer is "what I see". I follow world-events and am of a rather liberal stripe. To top it all off, I'm a vegetarian.I'm an extrovert and don't take life terribly seriously.

Roxanne
Roxanne graciously posed for me. I think she is breathtakingly gorgeous and reminds me of a woman in several of Austrian Gustav Klimt's (1862 - 1918) paintings.

San Francisco Market Street Again
I bet this lady has quite a story to tell. A book of Market Street biographies would be riveting!

Western Gull
Another picture from my recent ferry trip to San Francisco. As we approached the pier, about ten gulls followed. Most people don't pay much attention to them because they are so common, but, in fact, they are very beautiful birds.

Market Street
Market Street is San Francisco's most important thoroughfare. It has been compared to Fifth Avenue, the Champs-Elysees, and the Great White Way.
Bully for Market Street!

Larkspur Ferry
I took the Larkspur Ferry to San Francisco this morning. It was very windy on deck, and before long all the tourists had fled. All, except the brave young lady in my picture.

Swallows at the Ponds
Breakfast is being served!
It never fails. Just when I'm ready to throw in the towel for lack of something to shoot, a great photo-op pops up!

Chair
While taking pictures of the Double Dipsea foot race in Stinson Beach this morning, I noticed this chair, sitting there by its lonesome. I really liked it. And that's a candle, sitting smack-dab in the center of the seat.

Rockface
Millions, if not billions, of years old, this rock caught my eye the other day. Location of site was the Marin Headlands. One can only wonder and be mystified by what the Earth has to offer.

No Violin
My hair got so long that I was faced with a momentous decision. Get a violin, or get a haircut. After carefully weighing my choices, I decided on the haircut. So here is Wallace doing his thing. He used to be a barber, but recently changed his business-card to read "Stylist". And up went his prices!
I took the picture with my iPhone. What will they come up with next?

Weed-Whacking
Weed-whacking at Ellis Creek. Everything is extremely dry and there are hardly any birds.

Patience Pays Off!
After 18 months of coaxing, I finally got the Pelicans to pose for me on the exposed pipe at the Ponds. An ideal spot for preening! Here they are, joined by a solo Cormorant, suffering from species identity disorder.

Not Mount Rushmore
Rock formation at Point Lobos, that looked like a Native American (chief?) to me. Whaddaya think?

Jellyfish
Here's another one from the Monterey Bay Aquarium. For once, a video would be more appropriate.

Deer on the Island
Another 'Deer on the Island' picture from the Ponds. They must like it over there.

Billy Moore
If you lived, or hung out in, Sausalito in the 60's, you would have known, or known of, Billy Moore. He played a mean guitar and was a very popular man, often the center of activity. He was married to Katrina, a beautiful Swedish woman, and they had a son, Kwami. Billy was originally from Guyana where, I understand, he died in 2002. My picture of Billy appeared in the Marin Independent Journal and a framed print sits on a bookshelf in my bedroom.
What brought all this up, is that today, I received beautifully written, anonymous E-mail, from somebody who apparently knew Billy well. Whoever this person is, found me through my Blog. I wish that she/he made her/himself known.
Not a Bee
This gal/guy was much, much, smaller than a bee, and sorry, but I have no idea what it was.
This morning at the Ponds, where there were hardly any birds.

Nestbuilding
Every June, for the past few years, House-Sparrows (I think) build a nest behind the fire-alarm in my apartment-house carport. After all that work, the nest is abandoned a couple of weeks later. No eggs, no babies. Not a good spot for a nest in the first place. Later in the year the bell gets cleaned, safety is restored, but love's labor has been lost.
I noticed some activity today, so I stood there, motionless, for about twenty minutes. Finally my wait was rewarded! Now I wonder what the outcome will be this year.

Bear With Me Please
I know that the quality of this picture is below par. I took it with a borrowed camera. Yet, the scene had a lot of appeal for me, that I decided to share it. Swallows at the LGVSD Ponds. I've never seen them alight on a bush like that. My friend, Bob T's, immediate reaction was "Christmas Tree", and I think he hit the nail right on the head.

Under the Bridge
As you can see, this hut stands under the Golden Gate Bridge. I discovered it the other day, when I was taking pictures of the bridge's 75th birthday celebration. A relic of another era. I wonder what purpose it served. Perhaps it was used as a toolshed. Anyhow, I like it and am glad it hasn't been torn down.
I was pleased to see a couple, who had seen me take the picture, stop and follow suit.

Pelicans in Flight
Most of the birds in the Ponds have left for the North, while the Pelican population is increasing. Here they are, flying from Pond #2 to Pond #1. I wonder how the decisions are made. Do they vote? Is there a leader? But as the saying goes, "Pelican see, Pelican do".
