Jingletown

This morning, my friend Jacqueline Z introduced me to Jingletown, in Oakland's Fruitvale area. The name Jingletown originated with the Portuguese cannery workers, proudly "jingling" coins in their pockets as they walked home on payday. Today many artists live in the area. It is also the home of the Institute of Mosaic Art, and many mosaics are displayed on buildings sprinkled throughout the neighborhood. My picture shows one of these works of art.
