San Quentin

I took this picture from the ferry on my way to San Francisco the other day. It shows prisoners in the exercise yard of San Quentin State Prison. Note the guard sitting at the top.

The prison was opened in 1852. It was not named after a Roman Catholic saint, but rather after the land on which it is located, which, in turn was named after a Coast Miwok warrior named Quentin.

Add the term "SQQ" to your wealth of knowledge. It stands for "San Quentin Quail", and refers to underage girls.
